This part of the site is under development.
Car pooling is simply intended to bring together people who have cars who either make regular journeys or are planning a long journey, with people without cars and who need a lift. Sharing car journeys can be a cheaper, more fuel efficient and sociable way to travel which helps reduce congestion.
Passengers and drivers should make their own arrangements regarding contributions to the fuel bill and/or parking, but we suggest the following as a rough guide.
If you have a car……
……and make regular commuting journeys, please post below with your destination, departure and arrival times.
……and are popping out somewhere, please post in the one-off journey’s section. Don’t worry about short notice – if you are just popping out to Chester in half and hour, post it here – there may well be some grateful soul who’s missed the bus. If you make regular commuting journeys, let us know and we’ll post a table here.
If you need a lift……
Please contact the driver’s account directly.
Personal Safety
Clearly the advantages of car pooling are worth pursing, but there is a necessity to exercise caution regarding your personal safety whenever strangers get into cars together.
Hopefully, with Malpas being as small as it is, the chances are, most people won’t be complete strangers to each other.
If this is not case, you should exercise some caution to mitigate the risks.
We suggest:-
- Before going on any journey, first meet up in a neutral public place to plan the details and ground rules – get contact details, including name address and telephone numbers
- Tell other people when you are making the first trip – let them know who it is with and when you are expected to arrive at your destination – don’t forget to ring them when you do!
- For ladies – journeys with other ladies are preferable if possible.
- If not, ask around and make sure you know the guy giving you a lift or getting in your car is definitely a resident of the village.

Examples
At the moment, Geoff commutes to Chester everyday. It’s a 15.9mile journey. Assuming 0.40p/mile, his total cost for the journey, including wear and tear is £6.36 each way – so a total of £12.72p every day for the return journey. Joe is also doing the same journey. By car pooling they will each pay just £6.36/day day (half price). If they persuade David to join them, that’s just £4.24p/day for both legs of the journey – As cheap as the bus (check) and nearly twice as quick. If they can get a car full, they would each pay just £3.18p/day and be saving £9.54p/day each or a massive £38.16p/day total for all 4 of them.
